Australian strongman Michael Katsidis, one of a host of fighters to expose British champions in recent months, makes the first defence of his interim WBO Lightweight title against Czar Amonsot this weekend. A sentence which will dumbfound the boxing purists; how does boxing create a scenario where interim champions defend the belt simultaneous to the activity of the real champion, in this case Juan Diaz?
Katsidis is a capable, entertaining and strong contender and it will be interesting to see how he adapts to fighting on a major card; the fight with Amonsot is on the Hopkins v Wright show at Mandalay Bay. He appears in a determined frame of mind too, “With so much at stake, there’s no way I’m going to lose this fight.
Adrian Warren covers the story with quotes from Katsidis, who beat Graham Earl in a thrilling contest to claim the title, at Fox Sports Australia, click here.

I’m glad that Czar is alright after the injuries he sustained in that fight. He gave it his all and tried his bet to give glory to Pinoy boxing or Philippine boxing. I hope he recovers completely and fights again in the future.
