Boxing: Scott Gammar Scores Comprehensive Victory

GammarGammarTough Welsh heavyweight Scott Gammar got his career back on the rails over the weekend overpowering busy trier Paul King, a late-replacement for a replacement, to score a six round points win. Predictable enough result and a performance designed purely to add a W to the record of the former British champion following his defeat to Danny Williams. I’d certainly assume Gammar isn’t booked to learn much from circuit veteran King. Reports suggest he opted to use the whole six round work out rather than close the show.

The Western Mail, via ICWales on the net, provide a full report with quotes, click here. Gammar spoke earlier in the week of his determination to continue with manager Paul Boyce. A strong bond obviously exists, as Boyce famously declined a £150,000 offer from Frank Warren to fight Audley Harrison – Boyce preferring to fight Danny Williams, who by then had been smashed by Harrison, in a mandatory defence of the British title. Sprott took the fight and demolished the big Olympian. I think I have the chronology correct, Gammar was subsequently stopped by a rejuvenated Williams and lost his British title.

A curious move, and I don’t have possession of all the minor details to damn the pair too much, but you do wonder whether Gammar could have landed the honey punch Sprott did and felled Harrison – his future would have been assured if he had. Personally, I think he could have snatched the pay-day but would have been out-maneuvered by Harrison had the fight occurred.
