Big Danny Williams victorious in up and downer in Spain

kiplingCongratulations must go to gutsy, no sniggering at the back, London heavyweight Danny Williams tonight following his 7th round stoppage victory over the previously unbeaten Konstantin Airich in Bilbao. Williams, up lifts his ledger to 39-6 (31 Ko’s) with the win continues to build some momentum despite fluctuating weight suggesting ebbing motivation, he scaled 267 pounds for this encounter.

Always on the spot, report the clash proved to be something of a thriller with Williams receiving three counts and Airich two before the contest was stopped. On the under card fellow Brit Herbie Hide also emerged victorious as he attempts to inject some sunshine into the Autumn of his own patchy career. A 12 points victory over Ehinomen Ehikhamenor – easy for you to say – adds a little lustre to his resume and presumably helps the former WBO heavyweight champion keep his WBC international 200lb belt.

Lets hope it goes through the loops on his jeans, it’ll be useless otherwise.

Williams’ victory is more significant, but whether it secures a more meaningful heavyweight match-up this summer, Sam Peter at the 02 Arena in July was widely touted, is unclear. Precious little has been made of the potential appearance of the big Nigerian since the date was originally released.

Williams v Skelton anyone? No, me neither.
