Rahman Looking to Stars After Taurus Win

RahmanHolyfRahmanHolyfFormer heavyweight champion, and he was a proper one not just a belt holder, Hasim Rahman got back on track with a perfunctory points victory over peripheral contender Taurus Sykes. Weighing a beefy 261 pounds Rahman eventually won a comfortable points decision but it was only in the penultimate round Sykes was docked a point and floored that a clear gap emerged. And he still found time to shake The Rock in the last.

The three judges had it 95-93, 98-90, and 97-91 for Rahman who takes his record 41-6-2 (33) and steps a little closer to a world-title shot in the moribund division. Comments afterward suggest Rahman was far from pleased with his performance, implicitly suggesting the long break since defeat to Oleg Maskaev last August hadn’t helped. He hopes to fight again within a month or so to regain some sharpness.

Speaking to FightNews.com Rahman said: “I want to fight again in 30-40 days,” said Rahman after the fight. “I can’t go into a major fight like this. I have to fight again and look much, much sharper.”

Less kind observers suggested Sykes was level before the ninth and Rahman looked in the worst shape of his career.

  1. Well Ollie, you know your heavyweights.

Rahman was very poor by some accounts and terribly out of shape by others.

As always, he disappoints when expected to shine.
