Boxing: “I feel lost” – Alan Bosworth

BosworthI spoke to proud old pro Alan Bosworth on Friday, a couple of weeks on from the final contest of his career – a stoppage defeat to rising prospect Ashley Theophane in a British title eliminator. Hampered by flu, though typically magnanimous about the result, Alan relayed a sense of feeling lost since retirement.

Comfortable that all roads were now closed to him professionally and that at 39 he’d given all he could to the sport it would still take time to find balance and direction post-boxing. Enjoying opening a can of beer was one thing, extracting long-lasting harmony within a different challenge.

I wished him well, and reminded him of the credit he always been to the sport, to himself and to his family.
